Made some corrections on last post. It's hard enough to understand some of the British accents especially after a few pints but add that he's using a PA system in a large hall with lots of reverb and you get the idea. So Friday we had a new record - just shy of 19000 through the hall. They drank 80,000 pints of beer. Some of the beers I wanted to try are gone but that's to be expected on Friday and Saturday. But there's still plenty of others and usually, they set aside a few casks of winning beers to tap for the staff party (which is tonight).
Enjoying a few pints at the staff bar last night was well deserved after that crazy day. Below is a photo of the staff bar. Yes, 30 hand pumps of the finest bitters, milds and porters, just for the volunteers. Selection changes almost daily (depending on how thirsty we are). I also cracked open a 2003 Duclaw Black Jack Stout litre. A dozen Englishmen can't be wrong - smooth, roasty, nectar from the Gods. Wagner, you've now been raised to Deity level. (Don't let it go to your head, you're still a wanker.)
Today's the last day of the fest. Staff party will be tonight then I leave for Edinburgh in the morning. That'll be a 4 hour train ride through the countryside. Hopefully it doesn't rain.
Cheers,
Les
yes, wagner's still a major wanker
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can send Wagner to England. What do you think we could get for him?
